F The first Southeastern Parkinson Disease Conference was held in September 2006 as a
1½ day symposium. A need for an annual conference that would serve not just Rome, Georgia, but the entire Southeastern United States was expressed by the attendees. Along with the “Fall Symposium”, the Northwest Georgia Parkinson Disease Association held an Anniversary Gala. The Gala For Hope brought community leaders together with people living with Parkinson Disease to celebrate HOPE for a future free from Parkinson Disease.
In 2007 the expanded 2 ½ day conference was renamed the Southeastern Parkinson Disease Conference (SPDC) to better express our target audience. Berry College also became the host location for the SPDC. Attendees came from across the United States to enjoy the weekend of networking, education and advocacy. 2009 is our 4th Annual Southeastern Parkinson Disease Conference.
The SPDC begins with our traditional Opening Night Reception on Thursday night. The education and advocacy sessions held on Friday and Saturday feature both medical professionals and "patient experts". Friday night's Gala for Hope provides an opportunity to dress up and celebrate ourselves, each other and the advances that have been made toward better treatments and ultimately a cure for Parkinson Disease. Come, spend time with old friends and meet new ones.
